This painting was done entirely with a palette knife in a yellow monochromatic scheme.
The light scrape of a palette knife could sound like an ice skater at play, & became the most fun transition from my figure paintings to a more abstract style, all with more intense impasto in each next piece.
Every painting is an experiment to push learning & growth. This fun one's game was to make a monochrome painting of all one color with it's various tints and shades... to actually be interesting. Gold was a close enough tone & adds some real shimmer in the light.
The viewer is drawn in to the center, with some thinking it's inside a flower, others... the sun.
Palette knife painting over the 3-D edge can be a challenge, but really draws the uniqueness of this thick paint out. When you reach the edge of the painting, why stop there?!
Signature written in gold and with 3-D raised edges.
*Entered in the juried Associated Artists of the Inland Empire art show held in the Rancho Cucamonga VICTORIA GARDENS CULTURAL CENTER.
It was said to have been "The most commented upon piece there..." where people said: "Is it really made from real butter?!"
